Our Grooming Philosophy

Our objective is to ensure our guests leave relaxed, clean and re-energized, you'll find your dog waiting for you in comfort. The atmosphere at Coast Grooming is relaxed. New in 2009

We've remodeled with a new polished stainless steel tub with stainless rack and rubber tiles to hold dogs up out of the bath water, our new electric lift table with an anti-fatigue mat and grooming saddle for those who can not stand well on their own.

Dog Bath

Click on the links above in price-table to learn more about our shampoos. Bathing includes a tear free blueberry facial, customized natural shampoo and conditioning. Ears are cleaned with a tea tree flush, and plucked if needed. Hand dried and full body brushing (we do not cage dry). Finishing nail trimming and shea butter paw moisturizing. Dogs that arrive with live fleas will be given a flea bath with an additional charge of $10.

Full Hair Cut

Full body styling, your choice breed specific, creative styling, puppy cuts, field cuts or shave downs. Haircuts are added to your choice of bath above.

Pampered Paws

Drop in pedicures on the first Saturday of the month from 10 AM until 2 PM for $8, no maintenance charge for our regularly groomed clients. Paw care is an important issue for comfort and health and we offer a new approach without cutting tools, resulting in smoother nails. Finishing with a shea butter pad moisturizer. Included free with any dog bath. We also offer a full pedicure, removing the hair between the pads and neatening the top of the foot, includes nail trimming.

Detailed Partial Trim

Clearing around the eyes, neatening of the feet, and a sanitary trim, your dog will leave looking and feeling rejuvenated. Just the thing for some breeds or in between full hair cuts.

De Shedding

Keep their coat healthy and prevent matts and felting by thinning the undercoat seasonally especially with the heavy shedding breeds. ( Malamute, Shepards, Great Pyrenees, Goldens, Newfoundlands, Huskies, Eskimo's, Pomeranians and similar mixes)

We use a natural deshedding shampoo with a gentle pump spraying to the skin, softening and washing away the loose hairs. Followed by a rinse high in fatty acids. High velocity forced air dried and deshedding combed. This removes an abundance of hair here. Extremely thick undercoats may take a follow up bath and brush out.

De Matting

Dogs need to be free of matts before bathing. The first 10 minutes are included free with a dog bath. With our method of splitting and shaving out matts we are quick and painless as is possible. Excessive matt removal is $15./15 minutes. Matts restrict movement because of the painful pulling of hair. Once freed of matts dogs often feel frisky and should not be allowed to over do. Care must also be taken that they do not sunburn especially with shave downs.

Hand Stripping

A complete hand strip may be necessary, but a coat can be maintained for a considerable time by regular grooming and frequent detailed partial stripping called rolling the coat to remove the old blown coat and allow the new weatherproof coat to come through. A blown coat is long and shaggy and parts between clumps of hair.

Your dog is invited to our retreat

The ultimate luxury, your dog is not boarded, they are on retreat. Healthy meals and treats, we feed Nature's Best by Science Diet with supplemental canned and real food toppers of meat and vegetables. Dogs are drilled in basic family obedience commands with positive reward based reinforcement includes name response, come, wait, sit, heel, and no jumping.

Guests have meals and sleep in their own room, with comfy organic beds and blankets and toys with a biscuit at bed time. Fresh well water is double filtered using Aquasana's system, and Dog-Wa tea is offered as a morning beverage. Our landscaped and fully fenced Play yard is surrounded by concrete pavers and full of new toys to test from our boutique, buyk9.com. Small and groomed dogs use the smaller upper-yard with concrete, wood chips and redwood deck. The lower yard gives access to a landscaped grassy lawn, the Redwood Barn is open with beds and toys, during the summer heat we have a wading pool. On site supervision is 24x7.

When you need to pick up or drop off extra late or early there is a surcharge $8 before 8AM, or after 8PM.

Community Support

To share our appreciation of those who rescue in our community, Coast Grooming gives a free full grooming to their new dog rescued from the Mendocino Coast Animal Shelter and Humane Society, 50% off when our dogs are adopted to a home elsewhere. This is most beneficial for the day they are released and scheduled for on the way to their new home!

In our waiting room are bulletin boards with current pictures of dogs needing adoption; some shelter dogs and pictures of retiring greyhounds from a responsible kennel, and some from Wooden Shih Tzu Rescue. These breeds do not do well in shelters and are lucky to be receiving excellent in home foster care.

We support the Fort Bragg Dog Park, the Small Dog Social Group, Friends of Mendocino Coast Animals (FoMCA) and the local food bank.
